Joining Engineer BIW - £34/hr (Inside IR35) - Warwickshire - 6 Months (potential for renewal)
Role:
As a Joining Engineer, you will play a crucial role in the development and application of different joining technologies required for BIW manufacturing. Ensuring that all joining methods are applicable under plant conditions. Your expertise will ensure the quality and performance of all joining solutions.
Working closely with cross-functional teams across Manufacturing, Product Engineering and Materials Engineering, you will play a key role in shaping the future of joining technology applications for luxury automotive vehicles.
Key Accountabilities and Responsibilities
- Develop new joining technology from concept level to Industrial readiness level. Independently plan and execute experiments, trials, analyse data and report the results.
- Review existing joining processes and find out opportunities for reducing CO2e footprint.
- Carry out Benchmarking & Best Practices studies, analyse competitor solutions, conduct a cost/benefit analysis and value mapping exercise.
- Write joining process standards, develop and maintain PFMEAs for different joining technologies.
- Collaborate with the project team to review CAD and provide technical inputs for joint feasibility for different joining technologies involves in the vehicle program.
- Issue Prevention & Resolution - Root cause investigations (8D/DMAIC), capture lessons learned and embed improvements in foundation documentation.
Skills / Experience:
- Currently holding a degree or equivalent in a joining or material discipline.
- Prior direct experience in the automotive industry
- Background in automotive joining technologies, working at a technical level with any of the following:
- Gas Metal Arc Welding (GMAW)
- Self-Piercing Riveting (SPR)
- Resistance Spot Welding (RSW)
- Adhesive Bonding
- Laser welding
- Flow Drive Screw joining

Duties:
The BoM Engineering team within Product Information is responsible for creating, configuring, maintaining and interrograting the Bill of Material in the early phases of programmes. The team support Engineering within each Centre of Competence (CoC), building relationships with, and guiding Engineers through the BoM creation and management process.
The team also perform a number of quality checks, from commodity audits to large scale validation events, to ensure completeness and accuracy of those BoMs for a number of gateways within Programme lifecycles. The BoM Engineering team work on all current and future vehicle lines, across both brands and all manufacturing facilities globally.
In this role you will be responsible for managing set up and changes to Bills of Material, challenging inputs where appropriate and seeking out information required from key stakeholders to deliver a coherent and quality Bill of Material for client both in legacy and future systems.
Skills / Experience Required:
- Must have a good working knowledge of MS Office, especially Excel.
- Able to manage delivery of multiple tasks
- Ability to analyse and solve complex problems
- Must be able to work singularly and in a team
- Previous BOM experience within an automotive role
- Knowledge of Agile methodologies will be useful

This function is responsible for the functional safety verification of battery management controls software.
A Specialist Professional is a recognized subject matter expert in job area typically obtained through advanced education and work experience.
Responsibilities include:
- Using requirements to derive test cases.
- Write test cases in gherkin (BDD) and stored within X-Ray, a subset of JIRA.
- Execute manual test cases on HiL Rigs (Dspace, vector or NI) and create test report.
- Create defect tickets for software failures or other issues faced.
The test case author shall:
- Create the tests based on the system requirements (reviewed, approved, and baselined), considering the requirements verification criteria.
- Take into consideration the test methods & the methods for deriving the tests (according to ISO 26262-6.12) before test creation, mentioning them in the test.
- Provide detailed test description (test purpose) in natural language form pre-conditions test flow or test sequence post-conditions evaluation criteria link between the tests and the system requirements.
- Assure the consistency (through a report - traceability report) between tests and requirements, evaluate the eventual existence of suspect flags (indication that the test must be updated due to requirement change)
- Store the generated report under version control (object under review)
- Freeze (baseline) the content of the test.
- Inform the review stakeholders to proceed the review activity (automatic notifications through state change – e.g. Review)
- Understand and co-ordinate activities between all stakeholders in order to deliver safety-related verification activities
- Ensure common approach and common technical solutions where possible across all projects
- Ensure that ISO26262 [Part 6]/[Parts 4&5] are satisfied.
Experience:
- Prior experience of functional safety verification within a software/controls role
- Functional Safety (ISO26262) experience at Software level
- Specific knowledge of ISO26262 [Part 6]/[Parts 4&5] required
Education:
Degree or relevant equivalent experience preferred
